Damson

 Prunus insititia

Damson fruit on Tree.jpgThe Damson is an ancient, small, wild plum from Damascus

The damson has a small, oval shape with smooth-textured yellow greenish flesh and dark blue skin.   fruit is harvested in late August or early September.

The skin of the damson is heavily acidic, rendering the fruit unpalatable to some for eating fresh.   Because of this tart flavour, damsons are commercially grown for preparation in jellies, jams and drinks.
